Conservation and Species at Risk

Core to our mission as a company, we strive to be leaders in our field by increasing our knowledge of the natural environment to support a sustainable and natural environment. Consistent with broader environmental values, NSE supports efforts to protect, maintain and enhance our natural systems, wildlife habitats, rare species and species at risk. We know that healthy natural environment systems are important both for the wildlife that inhabit natural spaces as well as the people that benefit from the ecosystem services provided by our natural environment. NSE staff have experience working with various rare species and species at risk including reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals, insects and plants. Services include:

  • Contributing to or developing provincial or federal recovery strategies

  • Species at Risk status reports

  • Development of standard survey protocols for monitoring or inventory of species at risk,

  • Targeted rare species and species at risk monitoring or inventory according to standard survey protocols

  • Research and ecological assessments to identify species of conservation concern and their habitats

  • Species at Risk and significant wildlife habitat screening

  • Mark-recapture studies

  • Road ecology monitoring and mitigation support

  • Development of guidelines to direct mitigation or conservation

  • Conservation Master Plans or Restoration Plans

  • Monitoring of restored or rehabilitated areas
