Bio
Mia has a specialization in botany, arboriculture, and ethnobotany, and has conducted various plant and tree inventories using Ecological Land Classification, plot and transect based survey methods, and Vegetation Sampling Protocol.
Throughout her employment and academic career, Mia has developed a broad set of technical and scientific skills in ecology, including: designing and planning field research programs; knowledge of wildlife monitoring protocols such as the Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas protocol for breeding bird surveys, the Marsh Monitoring Protocol for amphibian acoustic surveys, and targeted bat and other Species at Risk surveys; statistical analysis of ecological data; cartography and geospatial analysis; and technical writing and communication.

Mia additionally holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master of Science in Geography from the University of Guelph. During her M.Sc. studies, Mia conducted interdisciplinary research with Six Nations of the Grand River with a focus on reviving Indigenous ecological knowledge and people-plant relationships. Through her work with First Nations communities, she has gained practical experience engaging in cross-cultural research following the principles of two-eyed seeing and ethical space.
