Mia is a terrestrial ecologist with professional experience in ecological research and monitoring in academic and industry settings.

Bio

Mia holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Science and a M.Sc. in Geography from the University of Guelph. Her graduate research was conducted in collaboration with the Six Nations of the Grand River, with a focus on revitalizing Indigenous ecological knowledge and strengthening people–plant relationships.

Mia specializes in botany, arboriculture, and ethnobotany, and has extensive experience conducting vegetation and tree inventories using Ecological Land Classification, as well as plot- and transect-based survey methods and standardized vegetation sampling protocols.

She has developed a broad range of technical and scientific skills, including the design and implementation of field research programs, application of wildlife monitoring protocols, and statistical analysis of ecological data. Her field experience includes breeding bird surveys following Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas protocols, amphibian acoustic monitoring using Marsh Monitoring Protocols, and targeted bat and Species at Risk surveys. Mia also brings experience in cartography, geospatial analysis, and technical writing.

Through her work with First Nations communities, Mia has gained practical experience in cross-cultural research, applying the principles of Two-Eyed Seeing and Ethical Space. She brings a thoughtful, collaborative approach to ecological projects that integrates scientific and Indigenous knowledge systems.
