Development of a Standardized Survey Protocol for Small White Lady's-slipper
In 2020, the Standardized Survey Protocol for Small White Lady’s-slipper (Cypripedium candidum) was developed by North-South Environmental Inc., with input from experts from Manitoba and Ontario. The document includes a wealth of information about Small White Lady’s Slipper, including its identification, distribution, ecology, and threats, provides an overview of past survey methods, and lays out a science-based, standardized survey protocol. Using a standardized survey protocol ensures reliable and consistent data collection and reporting of various measures such as population size, threats, and site condition. This can help to address knowledge gaps related to the species’ abundance, habitat quality and threats, to better inform management actions. Many thanks to everyone who assisted with this project and to the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks for providing funding through the Species at Risk Stewardship Fund (Project 44-19-NSEI).
Development of a Standardized Survey Protocol for False Hop Sedge
This survey protocol has been developed to address the need for reliable, consistent and science-based survey methods in Ontario for False Hop Sedge (Carex lupuliformis Sartwell ex Dewey), a vascular plant Species at Risk (SAR) which is listed as Endangered under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act (ESA), 2007. This document reviews existing information on False Hop Sedge including its identification, distribution, ecology, hybridization potential and threats. Many thanks to everyone who assisted with this project and to the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks for providing funding through the Species at Risk Stewardship Fund (Project 71-20-NSEI).
