Senior Ecologist | Project Manager

Shannon has been working in the field of ecology since 2003 and is qualified to complete Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and wetland evaluations (Ontario Wetland Evaluation System). 

Bio

Shannon holds an M.Sc. in Botany with a specialization in restoration ecology and has been practicing in the field of ecology since 2003. She has presented at local and international conferences and been published in peer-reviewed journals and industry publications. She is qualified under Ecological Land Classification (ELC) and Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES) and served on the Committee on the Status of Species at Risk in Ontario (COSSARO) from 2021 – 2024.

Her professional expertise includes natural heritage peer review services, development of natural heritage system mapping and policy, completion of impact assessment reports (EA, EIS/EIA, NHE) and species at risk (SAR) permitting. Shannon has worked for municipal and private sector clients throughout southern Ontario and across multiple sectors, including land use development, mineral aggregate resources, oil and gas, infrastructure and renewable energy. This broad experience has given her in-depth knowledge of local, provincial and federal natural heritage policies and legislation, including lower tier and upper tier official plans, the Provincial Planning Statement, Greenbelt Plan, Niagara Escarpment Plan, the Planning Act, Species Conservation Act (replacement of the Endangered Species Act), Aggregate Resources Act, Fisheries Act and Species at Risk Act.

Throughout her career, Shannon has successfully managed large and complex, multi-disciplinary projects and deliverables often involving developers, municipalities, conservation authorities and technical experts such as engineers, hydrogeologists, hydrogeomorphologists, aquatic biologists, terrestrial ecologists, landscape architects, planners and legal counsel.
